Little One

When you're the youngest of four sisters, you spend a lot of time looking up.  You watch the big girls do their make-up, watch them get ready to go places you can't go.
You dress up in your sisters' clothes from last year and you try to read the signs and you wonder where your sisters went and what they're doing and when you'll be big enough to go wherever they are.
Sometimes your sisters, because they are proud to have a little sister as darling as you, show you around.  They show you their costumes and where they dance, but there is so much of it that you don't understand.  You just want it to be your turn!
You see Golda's Nutcracker cover art, and you admire her and wonder when you'll be able to draw like that.
Your mom lets you use the camera and you take lots of pictures of the big girls.  And the floor.  And the ceiling.
Finally, you tire of trying to keep up.  You're not big enough.  You don't have a costume, you don't have a dance, you don't know where to go.  So you go to a quiet, empty room and practice.  Because you have something that none of the other girls have.  You can play Cuckoo on the piano, and none of your sisters can do that!  And you have a piano recital today!

I bet those big girls wish they could play Cuckoo!  They are all very proud of their beautiful little sister.  They don't want you to get big, because you're so cute and lovable just how you are!

Too adorable!!!..and the story you put to it Circe is the best!!!...brought tears to my eyes!...I could just picture those words and thoughts going through cute little Xanthe's mind as she wandered through all the excitement of her big sisters. How cute is that that she found a piano to practice on..congratulate her for me. Yes, I am still up in Miami at 3:07 a.m.!!..We are nite owls aren't we? Love you, Tricia

Yeah for Xanthe. She found something she could do that is her's alone. Go Cuckoo! Ironic that they really want to grow up and we want them to stay little as long as possible. Of course post the Children Test. I don't know who to credit. Maybe Tiffany knows?

I'm so glad I got to see and hear Xanthe! Wonderful performance. I like her little smile at the end....almost like she was trying not to be too proud. Kudos to mom for seeing all the potential and ability in each of her children.

Very endearing, both Xanthe and your storytelling. Good job on the piano, Xanthe! Elise watched the video with me and was envious. (I tried to not point out what happens when one actually practices!)
