Ptolemy's Ptonsils

Ptolemy has giagantic tonsils. Or HAD. He got them out so he could maybe not be sick all the time and get better sleep. Mike Scheuller did the surgery, of course. We wouldn’t go to anyone else. He’s great.  The day of the surgery was fun, until he woke up. Since then, and that was 12 days ago, the kid has been pretty miserable. He hasn’t been back to school, and has hardly eaten a thing. As long as his pain medication hasn’t worn off, he’s mellow. As soon as it does wear off, we can tell. He’s a raging maniac. But he’s been very brave. I have loved having him home from school, and I never want him to go back.

This past week, he’s been white as a ghost and all skin and bones. It makes his eyes and his freckles stand out as if they’re independent of his body. He’s so freaking cute. I hope that once he’s fully healed, he will be healthier.

The night of the surgery, I took these kids to the dress rehearsal of Ballet West Shakespeare Suite. They also did summerspSumand Return from a Strange Land. All three pieces were astounding. Actually, Summerspace was not enjoyable. It was laborious. But when I saw it again the next week, it was incredible.
Then the next day, I went with goldato Conner Erickson's performance at Weber. He choreographed a piece for his senior project. It was perfection. Really incredible. We sat by Clytie, Sarah, Leslie, Jennifer and Lisa. I've missed them, not teaching ballet this year! It was a fun night.

A Typical Weekend

Susie's daughter Emma got married! Susie and I have been friends since we were born. We spent every Sunday in the same church meetings, and continued our friendship when our kids were born. Susie was a big mentor to me as a mom. Now her youngest daughter is married. Scott and I stopped by the reception to give Susie and her wife a hug, see all the Strongs and say congratulations to Emma and Jorje. Just a few weeks ago, we were all at Susie's dad's funeral, which was a beautiful event. Circle of life.
Friday night, Scott and Freesotne went to the ballet. Saturday night it was my turn to go with Freestone. We worked at the Academy table, handing out information if anyone wanted it, in exchange for two free tickets and volunteer hours. Freestone needs 20 hours of volunteering because of his scholarship. The ballet was great!
Tizzy got stung by a hornet.
Xanthe was a teenager with cute hair.
My supplier at Chesbro, Katie, sends cute cards. She is the best!
Lots of repairs and lots of kids!
Friday night I had a table at my friend Carrie's benefit concert. Tizzy helped me. We had a great time.

Meanwhile, Ruby was doing her thing in Mexico City and loving it!
I love this. We had so much todaying this weekend!

Funny memes about Mr. Jeff, Freestone's incredible ballet teacher. We love him!

A typical Saturday. It looks impossible, and it's pretty darn close. WE HAVE SO MANY LIVES IN OUR LIVES! We have so many logistics to contend with. It's a challenge, and that's why I get to the end of the day and say, "That's enough todaying for today." Ha ha. Oh, and see that optimistic little purple box that says, "Ramen with Scott, Ogden?" Yeah, that didn't happen. It got swallowed up in other responsibilities. Oh well. There's always next Saturday! (More optimism.)

Outside Activities

My friend Leslie Bates messaged some pictures of the blossoms at the Capitol one day when I was picking up Freestone from ballet. Inspired, I thought we’d stop by on our way home. Freestone’s reaction was, “Mom, ugh, I just had seven hours of class. OK. Let’s do it.”  He is such a thoughtful teenage boy. I just love him!

Scott and I took three of our girls back the next day to walk around and admire all the blossoms, and the other people stolling around.

Golda took lots of pictures of the girls.
I went up to Park City to clean Carol Gavan's condo. Long story how I ended up with that gig. but it was enjoyable. Deer Valley was a ghost town in the off-season, and the view was nice. I did laundry and cleaned and then drove up to the Ranch to enjoy some solitude lat into the night. I love alone time! I can't figure out why a person who loves to be alone had seven kids. I'm never alone. I'm never not needed. It seems like moms are the people who are always there when anyone needs them, but I don't want to be that person sometimes. The future seems daunting when I think that I'll have to do it like Coco and Marlene. They do so much for everyone. I don't want to do anything for anyone, let alone seven kids, numerous grandchildren, leftover exchange students, customers and all my kids' friends.

Then again, I do love all that stuff. I just know I have to take it one day at a time, and be sure to refuel with solitude, so I have energy for more of this...
