Frank learning ballet. :)
Frank came to me nervously and said, "Uh, circe, I want to register for the Mormon church." We had talked about it before, but I was still taken aback. When I asked him how he came to that decision, he said that our family, and his friends' lifestyle had "affected him." He did have a lot of really good friends at Davis High.
With his dad's permission, Frank started meeting with the missionaries. We only had about 3 weeks, because he wanted to get baptized before he left our home. So the missionaries were at our house all the time. The end of the school year was so nutso. It was really nice to have the missionaries and feel the spirit that was in the discussions. It's remarkable that we were able to fit in so many nights of talks and desserts. We always had to have a dessert. The elders looked forward to seeing what we came up with. There was one night that Scott and I escaped to Park City, leaving the kids and our home teachers, armed with chocolate covered strawberries, to facilitate the discussion.
Frank had the little pamphlets as well as the scriptures in English and Chinese. Despite the language barrier, Frank's pure spirit came through in the questions he asked and the feeling that we all felt. It was a neat experience.
He was baptized June 3, the day after school ended, two days after Ruby's high school graduation, the same day Freestone had the last two of four Ballet West performances. There are a lot of logistics in a baptism. The program (printing it, planning it, musical numbers, talks, prayers, witnesses), renting the clothing, arranging the building, printing and sending the invitations, planning the food, cleaning the house, etc. My friends were so great to jump in and volunteer food. I was still scared we wouldn't have enough, because Frank invited so many high school friends, and his birthday back in January was such a big hit.
There were glitches, for sure. For sure! I kinda can't remember what they were, though. It was a neat spirit, Frank was beaming with happiness, and many, many friends and family were there to share in his joy. My dad offered to fly Frank's dad here to see it, but he was traveling in Egypt, and didn't have a visa anyway, so it didn't work. But it was heartwarming to have so much support.
