Grand Teton National Park and Jackson Hole

Since we had woken up at 4 am the previous day and gone to bed late after a full day in Yellowstone, we took it easy the second day.  Our apartment was nice, so we slept in and then relaxed while Victor cooked up some breakfast.
When we finally hit the road, we were in for a treat, both with the scenery and the, well, treats.  We took the route through Victor, Idaho, which is a beautiful drive.

Ha ha.  We spent some time in a little internet cafe in Victor.  The proprietor gave us some local tips and said Victor and the surrounding area was the "friendly side of the mountain," compared to the other side, Jackson and Grand Teton.  I could see what he meant.  Jackson can feel uppity, and the national park can feel restrictive, compared to the BLM land on the "friendly," less developed side of the Teton Pass.
We did venture to the other side of the mountain, undaunted.  Teton Pass is incredible.  We had to take some time at the top to do a little walk through the meadow.

He's so happy, it's insane.

Looks like a little insanity is going on here, too.

Lunch in Jackson was at the perfect little pizza place, Pinky G's.
Then Ptolemy and I hung out in the town square and accosted Chinese tourists with pictures of Golda, explaining to them that she's learning Cantonese.  I scared some people.

I just love these people.

By the time we were finished relaxing in Jackson, we had just enough energy to drive into Grand Teton NP and visit Jennie Lake.  Swimming was the perfect counterpoint to all the hiking and sight seeing of Yellowstone.

Our little beach was microscopic, and we shared it with a couple from Copenhagen, even changing into our swimsuits right in front of them.  I halfheartedly apologized for the "cheekiness," but they brushed it off, saying, "We're Danish."  Can't scare a Dane with a little nudity!

The Tetons are so magnificent, we had to stop for one more photo op before settling in for the 5-hour drive home.  Road trips are the best.  There's nothing like being able to take yourself (and any willing participants!) anywhere you want to go, free of time restrictions and totally on your own time frame.  It's the ultimate freedom.  I can't get enough of it.
