Golda's birthday

Happy 21!!
Golda has officially been bringing joy to our lives for 21 years. That's a lot of joy! She came to us already ruthlessly independent and fiercely curious, eager to zoom out of the womb and start achieving. And honestly, she hasn't relented in 21 years, adding to her strong spirit the qualities of compassion, patience and love, layer upon layer, in her quest to know God and herself.

Sometimes birthdays don't come with pony rides and balloons and your favorite cake. Golda's 21st birthday was reflective of this moment in her life: she worked. She is working incredibly hard to earn money for her semester in New Jersey. Many times this summer, going from her first job to her second, to an evening gig, she has questioned her decision to go to New Jersey.

I always tell her that it's what she wanted. To have new experiences in new places, and to take every opportunity. But first comes the work. Although she worked her birthday, we left for San Francisco early the next day, bound for another new adventure. I hope Golda never stops adventuring, or seeing the value in working for those adventures. Happy birthday, Golda!
