Conference Breakfast

The kids' favorite thing about LDS General Conference is the notebook Grandma and Grandpa give them to take notes. We did the traditional breakfast Sunday, then the kids put those notebooks to good use. All weekend, talks were inspiring, but one took the cake.

We had gone to my parents' house and we're listening to the afternoon session when Elder Keuron spoke, with his British accent, about the refugee crisis. It was compelling, to say the least. The best part was President Uchtdorf afterwards, as he struggled to contain his emotion in announcing the remainder of the program. He had been a refugee twice during WWII, and I'm sure emotions were close to the surface, due to his own past, as well as what is happening in his native Germany right now with the Syrian crisis.

Anyway, the next day was my first full-time day as a preschool teacher at the Refugee and Immigrant Center, where I've been volunteering. Elder Keuron's talk was very timely for me.

We all love getting together with the family during these special weekends. Marlene put together so much food, even as she recovers from surgery. She and Bruce are remarkable.
