Saturday in Paris

Saturday, we really slept in!  Scott and Trajan were out late at the Radiohead concert, and Tizzy wanted to stay up late.  She would look at Freestone and laugh, trying to get him to play with her, even after he fell asleep.  By the way, someone commented and asked me where we found the apartment.  You really should talk to my mom.  She know every apartment online.  It's her hobby.  I'll find out more.

At 9:30 when we woke up, we strolled over to Starbucks.  Like all the other cafes, they have a breakfast that includes a hot drink, fresh squeezed oj and a croissant.  It's a fun place to people-watch.  You hear all kinds of languages and the employees are multi-lingual, switching languages as easily as they manage drink orders.  Then walked through the Ile de la Cite where all the greenhouses are with the gifts.  We bought some sachets and went back later to buy Mom a gardenia plant for her birthday.  Scott's big day was over and it was Coco's turn to celebrate!

We went to the Pompidou where Freestone hated the art.  We should have started out at the Musee d'Orsay where the art is at least understandable!  Alas, we never made it to the Orsay.  I was sad, but we maxxed Freestone out on museums at the Pompidou.  He kept making funny comments as we walked through the exhibits.  "Paris is inappropriate.  Paris is ruining me.  I think some artists just make dumb stuff to get money.  I don't get any of this.  This stuff would be illegal in Utah.  I can't believe you brought me here!  The creators of Little Big Planet are way more creative than these guys."  One temporary exhibit was really out there and grotesque.  We hurried through that one.  Freestone had one eye open wide and one eye closed.  He didn't know whether to further his "education" or protect himself.  He was especially annoyed by a nude statue made out of blue resin.  I told him it was the same statue where we saw a kindergarten class on a field trip last year.  He said his school would never take him on a field trip to see naked statues.  Gotta love Europe's love of the human form!

 Classic
And the age-old question:  "What is art?"  In my opinion, just because you have something to express doesn't mean your expression is valuable.  There is such a thing as crap.  That said, a lot of the art at the Pompidou is inspiring, beautiful and thought-provoking.

It was raining after the museum so we dashed across the square and sat in an Amarino store.  Then we walked back to our place and the sun came out.  The light was absolutely gorgeous!
We met up with mom and dad and trajan at the apartment and went out for a gyro.  42 years ago today, Mom and Dad eloped to Europe.  They were so in love, they didn't think about the implications of being together all.the.time after their honeymoon!  When they got home, the reality set in.  I don't think there have been many regrets along the way, and it has certainly turned out well for me and my brothers!  We wouldn't be here if it weren't for the rash decision of two people who decided to elope to Switzerland weeks after first meeting each other.  Here's to rash decisions!
