Deer Valley

We wanted to spend some time with the Bazail Boys, so we arranged for an early morning hike that wouldn't conflict with our trip to the cabin, Sarah and Roland's meetings or the Bazail boys' kids club.  What we came up with was an 8 am hike in Park City, which meant I would voluntarily wake my kids up at 6:45 to leave home at seven.  Crazy?  Well, let's put it this way.  I didn't think we'd ever find ourselves saying fondly, "Remember that time our cousins were here from Miami and we slept in and never saw them?"  So we went.  The drive up the canyon at that clean and sunny hour was wonderful.  Alex was quite the leader on the hike, directing our motley little crew and trying out different-sized rocks with his slingshot.

On our last expedition to the trails, Freestone was mad about Ptolemy's lack of fortitude and Xanthe's puffed-up face.  He said, "If you want it to be an adventure, you have to choose the right people."  We chose the right people for our Deer Valley hike, although we could have used a few more kids - namely three of my daughters who were busy and Lincoln, who was sick.  But at least I got an hour or so to chat with my favorite cousin on the King side while our kids figured out how best to descend a rocky slope.  No matter how much we try to stay in touch, that kind of experience can't happen via text.  (Although I think Sarah posted pics of us to FB as we hiked!)

So now we can say, "Remember that time we sat on the ski lift in the summertime with Alex?"  Yeah, I do.  It was fun, huh?

Good for you to make the effort to make the memories! I keep reading you book reviews. Thank you! "Unbroken" is unforgetable.
