Ah! An 11-hour drive and then this! The drive was the fastest ever. I was dying for this trip, and I was so happy to breathe in the fresh salt air. Upon arrival, we indulged Freestone's latest obsession. His cousin Collin has been making and selling suckers, and Freestone wanted to try it so badly, he walked to Bennion Crafts and bought all the supplies. I didn't want to do it, so I put him off. It was fun, though, to bring back the 1970's, and my childhood. Freestone's suckers were good, too. I promised Jennie he wouldn't attempt to sell them within a 50-mile radius of Collin! ;)
The next day, Monday, was Scott's 45th birthday. Happy birthday! The kids gave him this fancy letter S.
We always laugh about a fight we had in San Sebastian, Spain, called "The Battle of the Bay of Biscay," in which Scott wouldn't hold up the pastries high enough for the picture because a groups of Spanish sailors was laughing at him. He held the letter S up really high. Har har. None of us want to relive the steamy rage of the B of the BB.
Scott also got a super cool long board for his birthday. Araceli had been interested in getting one, so like everything else parents do, the longboard is really for the kids. Scott's little gaggle of children ran after him as he relived his youth. The next day, an article popped up on Scott's news page. "Skateboards: The New Comb-Over for Men Chasing Their Youth." How did the internet know Scott had just purchased a long board!?
Best picture of all time.
Aaaand this is the aftermath. Scott rode the thing to our favorite Hawaiian place for lunch. Right in the middle of his midlife crisis, he got a big charlie horse. Here he is stretching it out, while holding my purse and a doggy bag. He's so cool.
We had a fun birthday, and one that completely exemplified who Scott is. He is fun, adventurous and loves his kids. The long board adventure was just as much fun for them as it was for Scott. He insisted on letting ALL of them tag along when he bought it, at the surf shop downstairs from the condo. There was one other person tagging along: a 40-something beach bum, happy to the core because her favorite person was being everything that made him her favorite person in the first place. Happy birthday, Scott!

Good thing Scott's parents gave him a comfy blanket and pillows to rest his tired muscles! |
