No More Emails, No More Books!

Emails the likes of which nobody will miss:

Hi! It's Golda. I still can't find the textbook.  I remember putting it on the book rack with all the other books.  Can I go through and check the books, just to see if the one that has my number on it is there, or maybe somewhere else. The number was 2008-11. Thanks!  (Book was found!)

Hi, um I did the UTIPS test I believe last Tuesday or something and it's showing as missing. I got 97%; missed one (the question about conducting to be exact). I remember submitting it, did I do something wrong? I know I did it. Thanks!  (Teacher had received the test.)

Can I come in before school on Tuesday to take the test? Or any time Tues or Wed? Just ASAP Thanks! ~Golda  (Done.)

I was wondering if I could come in after school and take the final Com. Tech. test. If you can't do it then I could come before school instead. Or whatever, I just want to do it late as possible, so I can have more study time. Thanks!

(Done the last possible day.)

I turned my term project in early for extra credit, and I got 100%, but no extra credit. Did I forget something that took off points for the original papers? (I went to the zoo and the Utah House) I really needed it to raise my grade:) Thanks!  Golda  (Resolution still pending.  Needs the extra credit for an A.  Mrs. B?...You still there?)

Thankfully, school is dying a slow, painful death and I can almost finally say:

No more emails, no more books!
No more lunch ladies' dirty looks!

Ahh, the Lunch Lady Incident.  Now that's one for the books.  But I said no more books...right, Ruby?  :)

Field Day

Xanthe wearing Ruby's GREEN shirt (right after she spilled water on it.)
This is an actual email from the school:

Our classes are wearing the same colored shirt for field day to encourage team spirit. If your student is in the green class, they will wear a red shirt. If they are in the blue class, they will wear a green shirt.

Wait, you couldn't think of a way to make it MORE complicated?  Interestingly enough, we discovered this morning that the GREEN kid had 14 red shirts in her closet but no green, the RED kid had no clean clothes at all and there was one kid, who has two teachers, that was assigned both YELLOW and BLUE.  He went with green because combining the colors made perfect sense to him.  Good luck today, teachers!  Are you sure we all still have the combined brain capacity to pull of field day?  How about just popsicles?  Blue for the green class, red for kids with blue eyes, orange for the blue class and yellow for all the kids with red hair?

This year's teacher gift.

Shelter

This week, the last week of school, I needed to focus on something that was fun, just for me.  Enough with the planning and preparing for summer.  We're ready.  Thankfully, it was my turn to host Shelter, and I thoroughly enjoyed the preparation.  My theme, "the bluebird of happiness," from The Happiness Project book, kept me smiling all week.  Just the thought of having a "theme" for lunch makes me happy.  It was the perfect summer day for lunch al fresco with "Shelter Happiness Project Summer Mix 2012" CD's fluttering in the breeze on their ribbons.  These CD's make my heart swell.  I asked Scott to put together some happy music last night.  I returned hours later to find him dancing with Tizzy, listening to music with tears in his eyes.  He said, "Take a video of me dancing with Tizzy and we can show it at her wedding."  I love the CD he put together.  Jennie mentioned my idea to Ryan last night and when she woke up this morning, Ryan and Lexie had put together a "Happy Songs" collection.  I call it a mix tape.  I'm a product of the '80's!  Bottom line, no matter what you call it, we have good men around us.  The photos don't do justice to how whimsical and fun the CD's looked at lunch, and no photo can adequately capture the love between old friends, but it was abundant.

Today I feel like I have all the happiness my heart can hold.

Lagoon Day 2012

We get there early!
 First ride
Freestone claimed he had to take Ptolemy on all the little rides to protect him.  Freestone is not into the big roller coasters.  Jake was trying to talk him into going on them and Freestone said, "They just don't look safe."  Jake disagreed and Freestone blurted out, "Maybe YOU'RE not safe, Jake!"  A little stressed, are we, Freestone??
Tizzy, on the other hand:  Not stressed at all.

Landon, Richelle, Tanner, Jeff
Jeff and Richelle left and returned in the middle of the day to see Chase's championship soccer game.  He is an awesome goalie.  His team had won the semi-finals in a shootout where Chase blocked the necessary goals for his team to advance.  Way to go, Chase!  They lost the championship, but hey, silver medals are pretty cool!  We're so proud of Chase!

Austin, Cade and  Freestone, again in his "protective" role.
Four blondes and a Han, all cute!

Freestone sure doesn't like G forces.  He just wanted to be there in case Tolly needed him.
Good thing Freestone was there to make sure Tolly didn't fall out of the space ship.

This perfect puddle was probably the highlight of Ptolemy's Lagoon experience.  He gleefully splashed and emphatically jumped until he was soaked.  (I'm all for splashing, but I was going to draw the line if he went for that Cheeto!)
By far and away more fun than anything we stood in line for!

Freestone and I aren't roller coaster people.  At the end of the day, though, he and I went on the Jumping Dragon.  It was my moment of bliss for the day.  As I was hurtled in circles through space, I noticed that not only was Freestone still talking non-stop about how a metal detector would definitely help you find gold, but that I was still earnestly trying to listen.  I laughed crazily.  Scott said I looked funny.  Good.
After the Dragon, I felt adventurous and dragged Freestone, along with Golda, Ruby, Ari and Xanthe, on Bombara, a dinky little coaster that doesn't even have a big hill.  Free obliged, but said as we stood in line, "I'm not happy."  I kept thanking him for being my ride buddy and telling him I never would have dared to do it without him, which is probably true.  I believe he was happy in the end, after it was all over, that he had been there to protect me.

Good-bye, Lagoon...until next year!

The Annual Lagoon-Day-Eve Spaghetti Dinner

Scott and Dan
Loretta, Nichole, Jodi
Scott, Tizzy and Jeff.  Every time I turned around, Tizzy was being fed by someone new.
Just like at the beach!
Uncle Marlin and his new bride, Ann.  We were so happy to meet her.  We love her.
Ken and Loretta.  People half their age can't keep up with them!

Ryan won't shave his beard until after Ragnar.  It's a team thing, right Ryan?

 Kate and Tolly
Twinners!  Scott and Annette

I love these women.
Jeff and Loretta.  The Hills are huggers.
Skyler and Sally

Whenever we get together, I am reminded how lucky I am to be part of two great families.  I don't know about anyone else, but I loved every minute of the "Annual Lagoon-Day-Eve Spaghetti Dinner."  Marlene, Loretta and I tried to write down what we had for food, so that maybe, just maybe, we won't make way too much of everything again next year.  It will be nice to know exactly what we had when this gig rolls around again, but I know in my heart that we won't be able to go smaller and that in fact, there will probably be even more food.  Just a note to any interested parties:  six pounds of mini penne pasta is WAY too much for a group of 40.  So next year I'll make seven pounds,
just in case.
